Departmental Overview
The Department of Mathematics is rated as one of the top academic and research programs in the country and is one of the largest teaching units in the College of Letters and Science ('the College'). This is a collegiate department that stresses a supportive working environment and prides itself on building community between faculty, staff, students, and the public.
The Information Systems Analyst 2 ('Information Systems Assistant') serves as the primary point of contact for the department's staff, faculty, students, and campus IT personnel, and provides IT support within the Department of Mathematics.
The Information Systems Assistant serves as the Department of Mathematics Webmaster, manages and maintains the day-to-day operations of the math website, and maintains the WordPress website hosting service, which runs on the WP Engine platform, including creating new websites, assisting users, and ensuring compliance with accessibility and security standards. The Information Systems Analyst provides AV- Hardware support in the Department of Mathematics seminar rooms and spaces.

Responsibilities
50% END USER IT SUPPORT: Provides timely and thoughtful IT user support. Manages department AV Services. Acts as the liaison between Campus IT units and departmental end users to provide with staff with MacOS and Windows computer installations, including laptops used off-site. Creates and manages email lists and memberships, Google SPA (role) accounts, Google Shared Drives, and, CalGroups (Grouper). Manages staff access to the Samba shared server. Resolves issues with the Room reservations application ( Google Calendars) and provides staff support and training. Provides local assistance for campus services such as Zoom, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Box, VPN, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, telecom, Berkeley Events calendar, etc. Works with campus technology partners to resolve technical issues. Writes and maintains internal and user documentation.
20% WEBMASTER: Manages day-to-day operations of the Mathematics Website and WordPress web services associated with the department's research, including responding to email inquiries, spinning up new websites, and assisting users in resolving hosting and plugin issues. Manages bulk theme and plugin upgrades across multiple websites. Troubleshoots hosting platform issues in coordination with WP Engine support. Organizes workshops/office hours to support users with technical questions and encourages user self-sufficiency and adherence to campus policies, including accessibility. Works with ISA 4 to modernize web hosting services and processes as technologies and campus policies change. Writes and revises IT operations and user documentation.
15% IT OPERATIONS AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT: Under the direction of the Director of Information Systems & Technology (ISA 4), the ISA 2 manages Active Directory users, security software upgrades, and responds to ISO communication about security alerts and or threats. Collaborates with ISA 4 managing usage of campus IT services, including, but not limited to, NetApp storage, virtual servers, and campus data network. Manages desktop printers and shared multifunction copiers for the staff. Assists ISA4 with managing the security of IT systems and resolving campus network security notifications. Ensure compliance with campus IT policies.
10% HARDWARE AND EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS: Provides support on AV equipment, such as displays, projectors, cameras, and microphones. Provides AV support for special events, including recording and streaming. Recommends technology to ISA 4 that improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the department's operations.
5% GENERAL: Participate in professional development activities to expand skills and abilities. Assist with department-wide activities such as commencement or similar events. Other duties or responsibilities in line with this job function.
Required Qualifications
- General knowledge of several areas of IT, including, but not limited to, servers, data management systems, and web administration.
- Knowledge relating to the design and development of software.
- Basic knowledge of secure software development.
- Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderate to complex problems with computing devices, peripherals, and software.
- Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
- Basic knowledge of incident response procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
- Knowledge of business processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of the design, development, and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
- Demonstrated experience with database administration.
- Ability to write technical documentation clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer security tools, best practices, and policies.
- Demonstrated skills applying security controls to computer software and hardware.
