Job Description Summary
To manage the day-to-day operations of the camp to ensure compliance, safety, and a positive experience for staff and campers.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- At least 18 years of age, with a high school diploma or equivalent
- At least six months of working experience
- Experience working with Prince George’s Community College program, preferred.
- Experience working with elementary and middle-school aged youth.
- 2 years professional experience, with supervisory responsibility, preferred
Criteria
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Establish, maintain and encourage a positive relationship between staff (instructors, SYEP volunteers, camp navigators, instructional aides), parents and campers
- Greet all aides daily to promote and encourage a positive environment
- Provide communication with staff and parents, as needed
- Manage faculty absenteeism to ensure appropriate classroom coverage
- Perform observations in classrooms to ensure quality instruction
- Assist the staff with classroom management to ensure continuous learning for all campers, including navigating online platforms.
- Assist, instructor and/or program coordinator, with the resolution of misconduct made by staff or campers.
- Maintain a safe environment for all by ensuring everyone is aware of and comply with safety policies (fire drill, infectious diseases, etc.)
- Assist with administrative duties, including tracking attendance, monitoring pre-and-post assessments, managing daily check-in and out procedures, and ensuring classrooms are open, organized, and ready for instruction.
- Escort campers to designated campus locations to ensure safety and timely arrival to classes.
- Notify Health Supervisor of any injury to a camper for purposes of tracking.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of instructional materials for daily lessons
- Assist with monitoring students during the day and preparing projects throughout the week
- Assist with tutoring and mentoring of the campers
- Performs other related duties assigned by the program coordinator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to prioritize workflow and delegate tasks
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills, including public speaking
- Proficient with office technology including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Smartsheets, learning management, and enterprise systems (such as Canvas and Colleague.)
- Familiar with elementary-Middle school aged curriculum standards
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate with diverse populations.
- Good judgment and initiative and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with elementary aged students or older.
- Demonstrated knowledge with online leaning software and electronic health records records.
- Knowledge of child abuse and safety regulation
Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive walking, standing, lifting and pushing throughout the day.
- Willing to submit to a fingerprint test.
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
- As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
- A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
