Job Description
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Instructional Assistant Professor of Dance to begin Fall 2026.
This is a non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor (fixed term; 9-month faculty position; over 3 academic years; possibility of renewal, depending on performance and/or institutional needs). Primary duties will include teaching undergraduate dance courses, including technique, choreography, and theory, while maintaining excellence in studio and classroom instruction. Develop course materials, assess student learning, and provide mentoring and academic advising. Choreograph and/or direct departmental performances and participate in production activities. Contribute to curriculum development and program initiatives. Engage in departmental, college, and university service. Support student recruitment and retention efforts. Duties also include recruiting students and applying for external funding to support student activities. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
Texas A&M International University's minor in dance resides within the Department of Fine and Performing Arts of the College of Arts and Sciences. The department also houses undergraduate programs in art, music, and theater.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance with a focus on Flamenco and Folklorico from an accredited institution. Demonstrated success in teaching dance at the collegiate or professional level, with ability to instruct multiple techniques such as ballet, modern, jazz, or contemporary is a plus. Professional experience as a performer, choreographer, or dance artist is required. Evidence of effective teaching, strong communication skills, and engagement with students of various backgrounds is essential. We strongly encourage candidates with the ability to acquire external funding.
