Instructional Designer II
Position Summary
This is a non Remote Position, located in Daphne, Al. The United States Sports University is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and learner-focused Instructional Designer II to join our growing academic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced instructional design professional to make a meaningful impact on higher education while supporting faculty, enhancing online learning experiences, and advancing the University's mission of preparing leaders within the sport industry. The Instructional Designer II serves as a key member of the University's instructional design and academic technology team. This position partners closely with faculty, subject matter experts, and academic leadership to develop, review, and improve undergraduate and graduate courses using evidence-based instructional design principles and educational technologies. The successful candidate will help ensure academic excellence across online and hybrid learning environments while supporting institutional initiatives related to quality assurance, accreditation, accessibility, and innovation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and revise online and hybrid courses.
- Apply instructional design models and learning theories to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences.
- Develop course materials, multimedia content, assessments, and instructional resources.
- Review courses for quality, accessibility, consistency, and compliance with institutional standards.
- Support faculty in the effective use of learning technologies and educational tools.
- Conduct research to stay updated on best practices in instructional design and online learning.
- Assist with Learning Management System (LMS) administration and course implementation.
- Research and recommend emerging technologies and innovative instructional strategies.
- Participate in academic quality assurance initiatives and accreditation support activities.
- Collaborate with academic departments on curriculum enhancement and continuous improvement projects.
- Support strategic initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, and success.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in instructional design, educational technology, online learning, or related areas.
- Experience designing and developing online courses in a higher education environment.
- Knowledge of instructional design models, learning theories, and adult learning principles.
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred).
- Strong communication, project management, and collaboration skills especially consulting with and coaching faculty during the course design and revision processes.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards, including ADA and WCAG guidelines, with demonstrated ability to apply them in course design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Quality Matters standards or similar course quality frameworks.
- Experience with multimedia development tools, video editing software, and educational technology platforms (Articulate/Storyline).
- Experience using AI-enhanced educational technologies and learning analytics.
- Background in sports education, kinesiology, business, or related disciplines.
- Experience designing non-credit, continuing education, or professional development programs and familiarity with CEU administration and delivery.
