Instructional Designer

Western Governors University is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer in WGU North Carolina. This role involves developing high-quality educational experiences, managing course development, and collaborating with stakeholders.

Job Description

The Instructional Designer develops engaging educational experiences aligned with program outcomes and best practices. This includes managing course development, evaluating materials, and applying learning strategies. The position requires working in the Raleigh, NC office on a hybrid schedule (4 days in-office, 1 day remote).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Manages course design and development for new and existing courses.
• Designs engaging learning experiences that support diverse learners.
• Applies evidence-based strategies in UX/UI and accessibility.
• Collaborates with faculty and stakeholders for alignment and feasibility.
• Evaluates and revises curricular materials and assessments.
• Conducts quality assurance and ensures timely project completion.
• Acts as a mentor and stays current with learning trends.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong understanding of instructional design, adult learning theory, and project management. Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.

Education: Master's degree in Instructional Design or related field; experience may substitute.

Experience: 3 years in instructional design in higher education or similar.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in online learning, LMS, UX, agile processes, and AI.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged sitting and lifting up to 15 pounds.
