The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University invites applications for a full-time, Instructor of Sculpture to begin August 2026. The Department seeks an energetic colleague prepared to teach an innovative curriculum in the new Windgate 3D-Building. The ideal candidate has expertise in both contemporary and traditional sculpture, experience with both metal and wood, and is interested in teaching undergraduate students at all levels.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The teaching load will be three courses per semester
- The utilization of both our metalshop and the woodshop across the curriculum.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to teach wood and metal fabrication
- Ability to teach both traditional techniques and interdisciplinary approaches
- Knowledge of the history, theory, and contemporary practice of sculpture
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned MFA in Studio Art, emphasis in Sculpture (or equivalent 3D medium)
- Experience teaching at the college/university level (preferably beyond GA/TA)
- Experience with management, safety, and maintenance of lab facilities
- Ability to teach wood and metal fabrication
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years full-time teaching experience at the college level (beyond GA/TA)
- Ability to teach metal casting (foundry)
- Ability to teach mold-making processes (die casting, waste mold, injection mold…etc)
- Willingness to work collaboratively across disciplines in the department and beyond
- Willingness to maintain an up-to-date innovative curriculum
- Experience with digital 3D processes (CNC, plasma cutter, etc.)
