Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Software Development. Other courses may be developed to fit the successful candidate’s expertise and program demand as approved by the School Dean.
  2. Work closely with the Information Systems department in developing and delivering computer science and software development courses and programs.
  3. Provides quality-learning experiences for all students enrolled in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining rigor and the basic integrity of the course’s standards and objectives.
  4. Provides an accessible course syllabus that states clear objectives and evaluation criteria; follows the Curriculum Committee’s guidelines; integrates appropriate College learning goals; evaluates student performance; and performs routine assessment.
  5. Teaches courses in a variety of modalities.
  6. Advises students clearly and effectively.
  7. Recommends course schedules; recruits and mentors adjunct instructors; recommends new courses.
  8. Develops good working relationships with professionals in this discipline in the College’s service area.

Other Related Duties

  1. Assists in the College’s student recruitment program.
  2. Serves as a resource to the community, including speaking to groups and assisting with projects.
  3. Assists in developing a library collection in the discipline; teaches proper use of library and Internet resources.
  4. Works with staff of various College service departments.
  5. Becomes familiar with the budgeting process; assists with preparing budgets.
  6. Assists the supervising chair in all activities as requested.
  7. Participates in the College’s Assessment Program.
  8. Assists part-time instructors; reviews applications of adjunct faculty.
  9. Submits End of Year Assessment.
  10. Maintains an inventory of assigned equipment and supplies; ensures safe working conditions.
  11. Stays current by attending conferences and reading professional literature.
  12. Meets assigned deadlines.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline, or Master’s Degree in any field with 18 credits in Computer Science related coursework and/or certification (degree completion required by August 2025), or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and six years of relevant work experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of operating systems like Unix, Linux, and Windows, advanced technologies, and methodologies to OWASP coding practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students.
  • Recent coding experience in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Ruby, or C++.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an earned Masters or Doctorate in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related area.
  • Experience using active approaches to learning and alternative methods like interactive software or Internet-based programs.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in college-level teaching for at minimum 2 years; community college experience preferred.
