This job description for a Full-Time Diesel Technology Faculty position at the Vincennes Campus outlines a role that is much broader than just teaching; it involves instruction, program development, administrative duties, and student support.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The main function is to Teach Diesel Technology Courses, but the role is also critical to the expansion of the VU Cummins, Diesel, and John Deere Technology programs.
- Instruction: Organize and present instructional materials, communicate subject matter clearly, evaluate student performance, and assign grades.
- Program Development/Coordination: Play a pivotal role in program expansion, conduct research to maintain current industry standards, and initiate purchase requisitions.
- Student Guidance & Support: Give guidance to students during lab assignments, communicate with them at various learning stages, assist in student recruiting and graduate placement, and enforce departmental rules.
- Administrative/Maintenance: Maintain records (attendance, progress, supplies, equipment), maintain discipline, participate in program housekeeping, and prepare daily instructional plans.
Required Knowledge and Experience
The faculty member must have a strong background in repairing medium/heavy transportation, construction, agricultural, or power generation equipment.
- Technical Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable in safety, electrical and electronics, diesel engines, HVAC, powertrain, preventive maintenance, and steering and suspension systems.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 8 years of full-time, documented industry experience is required, depending on the level of education.
- Certifications: Applicable ASE or industry-specific certifications are required or must be obtainable.
Qualifications (Education & Experience)
There are three ways to qualify for the position:
- Bachelor's Degree: Concentration in Diesel or Agricultural Mechanization Technology or a related area, plus a minimum of 3 years of full-time industry experience.
- Associate's Degree: In Diesel Technology or a related area, plus a minimum of 5 years of full-time industry experience.
- Related Disciplines/Experience: A minimum of 8 years of full-time experience in Diesel, Agricultural Equipment, or Automotive Technology.
The Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's credentials.
