Key Responsibilities
- Discuss with counselors and other appropriate personnel any student problems which may require special attention
- Advise students and perform special assigned duties related to the registration and retention of students
- Develop, assess, and revise curricula in accordance with the policies and procedures upheld by the Faculty Senate Courses and Curricula committee
- Engage in approved professional development activities related to pedagogy, assessment, and academic area of expertise to
- enhance one's effectiveness in all aspects of teaching and course management
- Participate in recruitment, advising, and registration events
- Serve on college-wide committees and actively participate in committee activities throughout the term of service
- Adhere to professional standards of conduct
- Promote the College's image in the community
- Promote an atmosphere of collegiality within one's department and division
- Submit syllabi, office hours, grades, attendance, electronic time sheets, and other reports by established deadlines
- Attend all departmental, division, and general faculty meetings
- Collaborate with departmental and college-wide colleagues in the selection of library resources, software, textbooks, and classroom equipment
- Attend college convocations and participate in commencement exercises (attired in appropriate academic regalia)
- Participate in the annual faculty performance evaluation process
- Participate in other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Master’s degree in English, linguistics, or literature or Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in creative writing, or master’s degree in any discipline with 18 graduate semester hours in English, linguistics, literature, or creative writing.
Experience
- Must possess college level teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to teach a range of English courses (e.g., composition, literature, co-requisite/developmental English) to students with varying skill
- levels and learning styles
- Ability to evaluate and provide constructive feedback on student writing and reading comprehension
- Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and instructional technology
- Strong interpersonal and classroom management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and administration
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple courses, deadlines, and reporting requirements
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Commitment to student success and equitable, inclusive classroom practices
- Ability to support students at varying levels of college readiness, including those enrolled in co-requisite and dual enrollment coursework
