Job Summary

The Department of English and World Languages at Purdue University Northwest (Hammond and Westville, Indiana) anticipates hiring one full-time Visiting Instructor to teach first-year composition and other undergraduate writing courses for Spring 2026.

Candidates must have completed an MA in English (or other relevant field) plus a minimum of two years’ experience teaching writing at the college level. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching writing at the college level. Experience teaching Honors courses and professional writing is also preferred.

The start date is January 5, 2026. Responsibilities include teaching five classes per semester. Salary is competitive with similar positions at other regional institutions and includes benefits. Renewal of the position is possible and contingent on enrollment and successful performance reviews.

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences serves over 1,400 undergraduate students and 170 graduate students across a wide range of programs. Departments and Schools within the college include:

  • Behavioral Sciences
  • Communication and Creative Arts
  • English and World Languages
  • History, Philosophy, Politics, and Economics
  • Psychology
  • School of Education and Counseling

The College houses the Community Counseling Center, which provides quality affordable mental health services, and the Institute for Social and Policy Research, which uses social science and policy analysis methods to find solutions to educational, social, and health-related challenges facing the citizens of Northwest Indiana and the Chicago metropolitan region.
