Instructor in Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics
Wellesley College is seeking a professional Modern Dance Instructor for a single-semester appointment this upcoming Fall. This role is focused on delivering a high-energy, technical Modern Dance course for our undergraduate students. We are looking for an instructor who can balance a rigorous 60-minute technical session with the creative mentorship Wellesley students thrive on.
Schedule & Compensation
- Term: Fall Semester only. Reappointment possible with successful class completion.
- Days: Monday and Wednesday.
- Time: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
- Stipend: $2,000 (total for the semester).
Key Responsibilities
- Studio Instruction: Lead bi-weekly one-hour sessions focusing on modern dance technique, including floor work, spatial awareness, and rhythmic complexity.
- Class Management: Handle basic administrative duties for the course, including attendance tracking and grading (credit/no credit).
- Safe Practice: Prioritize somatic safety and proper warm-up techniques suitable for an evening time slot.
Requirements
- Experience: Demonstrated professional experience in modern or contemporary dance. Previous teaching experience at the collegiate or pre-professional level is preferred.
- Reliability: Absolute availability for the Monday/Wednesday 7 PM time slot for the duration of the Fall semester.
- Communication: Ability to inspire and engage a diverse group of students with varying skill levels in a condensed, one-hour format.
