Instructor in Social Work
Position Summary
Southeast Missouri State University invites applications for a full-time instructor of Social Work position to begin in Spring 2026. The selected candidate is responsible for teaching across the social work curriculum for BSSW students. Candidates must hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE accredited program. This is a 9-month recurring non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of instructor.
Along with teaching, service responsibilities, and on-campus engagement, the instructor ensures appropriate educational processes support student learning and professional development. Candidates must demonstrate a student-centered focus, commitment to social work education, and dedication to social work values and ethics. The BSW Program is CSWE Accredited and is developing a fully online option. The instructor will assist in online option development and delivery while maintaining CSWE standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses across the BSSW social work curriculum, both in-person and online.
- Oversee and monitor student performance for timely progression and success.
- Develop and implement policies with social work faculty and the department chairperson.
- Participate in curriculum design, program evaluation, and academic policy development.
- Maintain student data and ensure compliance with program and accreditation standards.
- Assist in preparing and updating social work manuals, forms, and procedures.
- Engage in departmental and university service.
- Serve as academic advisor to social work students.
- Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
Required Qualifications
- Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE accredited program at a regionally or internationally accredited university.
- Current active Missouri social work license or eligibility.
- Minimum of two years full-time post-MSW direct practice experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to social work values and ethics.
- Evidence or potential for teaching excellence in higher education.
- Ability to teach in multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, online).
- Demonstrated experience or potential in on-campus engagement and public service.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to collegiality within the University community.
