Instructor, Microbiology (Part-Time)

Manage equipment, supplies and materials.

Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.

Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.

Attend departmental and institutional meetings.

Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.

Support student organizations and activities.

Develop relationships with business and industry.

Complete program evaluation and follow-up.

Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:
Must have one (1) of the following:
A Master’s degree in Microbiology (Virology, Bacteriology, Parasitology or Mycology)
OR
A Master's degree and eighteen (18) graduate credits in Microbiology.

Occupational Experience Required: None

Preferred: Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Coursework in education slated to the delivery of Life Sciences instruction is preferred.
• Occupational experience in a microbiology laboratory or the medical field is preferred.
• Experience in proposal development and grant writing is preferred.
• Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
• Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
• Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
• Must meet State of Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) instruction http://systemattic.wtcsystem.edu/certification/default.htm
• Must meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
• Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.

ESSENTIAL TECHNOLOGY:

1. Email - Experience with an Email system (GroupWise, Outlook, Gmail…)

Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:

1. Online Information Management Systems - Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
   
   
2. Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems.
   
   
3. Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
   
   
4. Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications).
   
   

Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the STEM Pathway and is available to start immediately.

Hours: This is a part-time faculty pool position. This is an "applicant pool" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. All work must be performed in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following:

• Instructional Modality: In-person and/or online
  
  
• Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes
  
  

Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.

Interview: As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
