Instructor of History

Position Details

This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

Texas Christian University invites applications for a full-time Instructor in the Department of History beginning August 2026. The department seeks candidates who can teach a survey course on ancient and medieval Europe, in addition to upper-level courses on the Greek World, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire that contribute to the interdisciplinary minor in Classical Studies. The instructorship is primarily a teaching position, with a 4/4 load and an emphasis on survey courses (which are capped at 30 students), plus expectations of service to the department and to the university.

At TCU, the rank of Instructor is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a renewable contract and the possibility of promotion to the rank of Instructor II or Senior Instructor, depending on quality of teaching and service. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in History or a closely related field in hand by the start date, as well as a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Experience in undergraduate teaching and evidence of a strong teaching record are preferred but not required.

Department Details

The TCU Department of History has 19 full-time faculty members who lead an undergraduate program that offers a major plus minors in Global History and Military, War, and Conflict Studies, and who teach in a PhD program that specializes in US and Latin American History.

Required Application Materials & Application Instructions

Review of applications will begin January 15, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted through the TCU Human Resources website at https://jobs.tcu.edu/jobs/search/faculty-jobs. A complete application must include 1) letter of application, 2) full CV with contact information for three professional references, and 3) sample syllabi for an introductory-level course on ancient and medieval Europe, as well as an upper-level undergraduate course on a topic related to the ancient Mediterranean.
