Instructor of Interior Design
Position Details:
This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.
The TCU Department of Design in the College of Fine Arts invites applications for an Instructor of Interior Design. We seek an engaging and student-centered design educator with demonstrated professional expertise in interior design and proficiency in industry-standard digital tools. The successful candidate will join a collaborative faculty committed to shaping future design leaders through rigorous studio instruction, emerging technologies, and human-centered design.
This position supports a growing CIDA accredited interior design program and offers the opportunity to contribute to an innovative and forward-focused curriculum that connects academic excellence with practical experience and professional readiness.
The Instructor of Interior Design will:
- teach undergraduate courses including studio and seminar-format. Teaching assignments will be based on the applicant’s experience and expertise.
- teach using design-oriented software, including AutoCAD and Revit
- advise/mentor undergraduate majors
- provide service to the Department, College and University, normally committee work
- continue professional development
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely-related professional field
- Graduate degree in Interior Design, Lighting Design, Architecture, or a closely related professional field, or five years of related professional practice
- Evidence of proficiency in industry-standard software, including AutoCAD and Revit
Preferred Qualifications:
- College-level teaching experience
- Proficiency in using and teaching a range of industry-standard software beyond AutoCAD and Revit, including SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, AGi32, ElumTools, Rhino, Enscape, and similar software
- Professional or teaching experience in Lighting Design
- Professional licensure/registration (Interior Design or Architecture)
- Proficiency in using and teaching digital fabrication techniques and processes
Department Details:
The widely-recognized and respected Department of Design offers the BFA in Interior Design, the BFA in Graphic Design, the BS in Design Studies, and a minor in Architectural Lighting Design. There are approximately 200 undergraduate majors in the department. Upon filling this position, the program will have 13, permanent faculty positions with generous adjunct support from the vibrant Fort Worth/Dallas design community.
The Interior Design Program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). The Department of Design is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). In alignment with CIDA and industry standards our program values the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification for our Interior Design faculty. The NCIDQ certification is the industry's recognized indicator of proficiency in interior design principles and a designer's commitment to the profession.
School/College Description:
The TCU College of Fine Arts is home to six academic units: the School of Art, the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance, the School of Music, the Department of Design, the Department of Fashion Merchandising, and the Department of Theatre. We offer 33 undergraduate degree programs and 24 advanced degree programs to prepare the next generation of creative leaders in the arts. Students in the College of Fine Arts study with renowned professors and guest artists, annually present more than 350 public performances, and regularly present art, design, and research in juried exhibitions and competitions.
