Job Description:
The Sound Production and Recording Program at Weber State University seeks applicants for a full-time instructor position starting Fall 2026. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a large student body in the context of a dual-mission public university.
The Sound Production and Recording Program is fast-growing and dynamic with a current enrollment around 75 students. We are committed to developing and maintaining a curriculum that is modern, flexible, and prepares students for the live sound and recording industries. In addition to an Associates Degree and a Minor, our program features a new, pioneering, Bachelors of Applied Studies degree. Housed in the College of Arts and Humanities, we strive to collaborate with the music, theatre, and dance programs, creating opportunities for students to receive hands-on interdisciplinary experience as well as cross-program mentorship.
Job Duties:
The position involves a 12-credit-hour workload per semester. Responsibilities include teaching courses in audio fundamentals, lower and upper division courses in live sound, and studio techniques courses. Additional courses may be offered, depending upon the special skills or interests of the selected candidate, as well as technical or design opportunities on performing arts productions. The candidate will work with Sound Production and Recording faculty to develop and maintain high curricular standards that keep pace with the evolution of live event and recording industries standards and practices.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in student recruitment and outreach, mentorship, as well as support interdisciplinary collaboration.
Start date is July 1, 2026, and classes begin in late August.
Required Qualifications:
Required:
- MS/MFA/MA in sound or closely related field.
OR
- BS/BA/BFA in sound or closely related field with 10 years or more of professional work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred:
- Live sound and event production, with a background in system design and integration, FOH engineer or similar position(s) is preferred.
- Significant professional experience in sound recording, live sound, sound design or live event production.
- Experience teaching at a university level.
- Experience working with a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional student populations.
- Proficiency with current recording and live sound equipment including Avid, DiGiCo, Yamaha, Neve, L-Acoustics, Dante, Pro Tools, Rational Acoustics.

The Sound Production and Recording Program is housed in the Val A. Browning Center, which includes three state-of-the-art theatre spaces and serves as a cultural hub in northern Utah. The new Ray L. Kimber Music & Sound Recording Studio offers students hands-on learning experience with the best tools of the trade for careers as music producers, sound editors for film, live sound engineers and more.

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
