Position Summary:
The Department of Special Education (DSE) in the College of Education (COE) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is seeking an Instructor of Special Education skilled in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to join our dynamic, student-centered faculty. The instructor will teach a selection of core undergraduate and graduate courses, with an emphasis on courses in ABA in the Department’s master’s program, to a dynamic mix of traditional college students and working professionals seeking initial and advanced training in special education.

Description of the Department of Special Education
The Department of Special Education provides leadership in our local, state, national, and international communities in the areas of teaching, research, and service. Faculty and Department efforts promote research-based practices that reflect the changing societal needs of people with disabilities, their families, and the professionals and organizations who work with them. This is accomplished by bringing faculty, students, and members of our various communities together to improve the quality of education for all members of society. Description of the Area
Florida Atlantic University is located in Boca Raton, Florida, a tropical setting known for its culture and entertainment. The university's main campus is less than three miles from the Atlantic Ocean and Boca Raton's beaches. The area around FAU is known for its nightlife, trendy restaurants, and culture. Responsibilities
We seek an instructor who will enhance, develop, and teach core courses at the undergraduate level, but primarily at the master’s levels. This instructor must have the knowledge, skills, and disposition to teach across a variety of delivery modes in content areas (e.g., ABA, inclusive education, special education, assessment, policy, and behavior support). The instructor will work to promote the mission and goals of the Department, College, and University.
This Instructor will be expected to:
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in special education (e.g., ABA, assessment, inclusive education, policy) in a variety of delivery formats (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous online).
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students and keep orderly records for each advisee.
- Respond timely to student inquiries (e.g., emails, voice mail messages) in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development (e.g., to revise curriculum content and update courses to meet online delivery quality standards).
- Work collaboratively and ethically with other faculty, staff, and students.
- Keep abreast of current developments in the field of special education.
- Prepare reports or responses to teacher preparation and other mandates (e.g., Florida Department of Education candidate completion rates).
- Maintain and demonstrate competence in teaching, research, and professional activities, including serving on department, college and university committees, participating in professional associations (e.g., CEC), and community service.
- Participate in faculty meetings and assigned department committees.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in special education or closely related field by August 1, 2026, with a minimum of 18 units of graduate coursework in special education.
- A minimum of three years of practical and effective teaching experience as a special educator at the PK-12 level or equivalent clinical experience in ABA.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students using innovative instructional approaches, methods, and technologies to deliver instruction across delivery formats (e.g., fully online- synchronous and asynchronous, hybrid, and face-to-face).
- A record of engagement in professional service and community engagement activities that align with the advancement of the field of special education and applied behavior analysis.
Desired Qualifications
- Hold a BCBA or BCBA-D certification or experience teaching behavior analytic coursework.
- Experience teaching in face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments.
- An emerging record of engagement in professional service and community engagement activities that align with the advancement of the field of special education.
- Expertise in special education legislation, assessment, and accommodations/modifications for students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities.
- Experience with inclusive education and theories related to curriculum/instruction for students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of current trends in the field of special education and applied behavior analysis.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
It is desired that the successful candidate has effective oral and written communication skills, up-to-date technological skills, and experience using instructional technology to deliver eLearning and hybrid courses and supervision. It is also anticipated that a strong candidate has highly rated experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level special education courses and courses in applied behavior analysis.
