The Opportunity

The instructor will guide undergraduate students and be involved in program, area, college, and community service. Additionally, the Instructor will develop new courses in emerging and innovative areas in alignment with other departments, programs, and initiatives at the college. Candidates should also demonstrate sensitivity to issues of diversity and have the ability to motivate and teach students of diverse, ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures, and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities, or varied levels of academic preparation. The instructor will be an advocate for access to higher education, particularly for first-generation and immigrant students. The successful candidate will preferably have an understanding of and a commitment to the role of community colleges in higher education.

Department Introduction

The Practical Nursing Program within the School of Nursing and Health Science, is a four-semester certificate program. As a small program; faculty have the opportunity to work closely with the students and foster positive relationships. Educational technology is incorporated into the program with computer assisted instruction and simulation experiences. Clinical experiences are in acute, outpatient, and long-term care facilities to expose the students to a variety of client encounters.

Summary of Duties

What You’ll Do:

Under the supervision of the Director, the Instructor, Tenure-Track Practical Nursing faculty will be responsible for successfully performing the professional duties of both didactic and clinical instruction. As full-time faculty, this position will assist the Director in mentoring adjunct faculty and the continued development of the program.

Salary: Depends on Qualification
Salary Grade: INSTRUCTOR

What You’ll Need

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  1. Provide instruction to students in the classroom and clinical
  2. Holds a minimum of three office hours per week.
    • Advise and register students when indicated.
  3. Participate in:
    • Student learning outcomes assessment activities
    • Accreditation activities
    • Discipline and Program meetings
    • College Committee work
  4. Maintain active involvement with:
    • Adjunct faculty using individual and group discussion meetings, and with students through regularly scheduled student advising sessions.
  5. Participate in curriculum committee for the development and revision of course outlines.
  6. Perform other professional duties as directed and/or approved by the Dean or Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Two years college-level teaching experience, preferably at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching in the specific discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern pedagogical technology and its use in the classroom.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide diverse teaching methods to differing learning styles.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and the ability to teach students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
