Suffolk County Community College is searching for a full-time (10-month), tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor to serve as the Program Coordinator for the Surgical Technology Program beginning Spring 2027 at the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood. This position requires expertise in the field of Surgical Technology and an understanding of related industries. Key Responsibilities:
Be responsible for all aspects of the Surgical Technology program, including the organization, administration, continuous improvement, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program and the program budget.
Maintain a credential in surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
Participate as needed on search committees to hire faculty and facilitate faculty meetings per institutional requirements.
Administer and lead Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings.
Maintain Surgical Technology program accreditation.
Develop a program of student assessment and evaluation.
Remain current with developments in the scholarship of teaching. Use the latest supportive instructional technology and alternative delivery methods.
Maintain knowledge of current industry trends by attending conferences, joining professional organizations, and performing related tasks. Gain and maintain required professional certifications, including requirements related to applicable State statutes, and accreditation, all within the designated timeframes.
Design and maintain curriculum for the program, including: developing course syllabi, organizing and maintaining classroom(s) to facilitate learning; maintaining and updating existing course curriculum to meet required accreditation standards.
Perform institutional requirements, including: participating in events and meetings as required; orienting new instructors; and planning events to assist in promoting the program.
Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to recruit students. Markets the Surgical Technology program, and participate in planning for expansion of the student pool.
Develop and maintain relationships with clinical partners and other program directors. Work collaboratively with these other external entities to promote student education, recruitment, retention, and job placement.
Attend ARC/STSA and EdAccred AccredX conference annually.
Must incorporate an appreciation of diverse identities, backgrounds, cultures and perspectives into courses.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Associate Degree from an education program in Surgical Technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Minimum of at least five (5) years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years, as required by the ARC/STSA accrediting body.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Healthcare Administration and/or a healthcare profession
Experience with program accreditation.
Possess proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity and student success.
Familiarity with a learning management system and/or willingness to use the college’s LMS (i.e. Brightspace).
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.
