Integrated Pest Management Technician
General Information
James Madison University's Facilities Management is accepting applications for a Integrated Pest Management Technician. Shift is Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with overtime as required to cover special events and inclement weather. There is a slightly alternate schedule during the summer months.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Helps to ensure that University property remains free from vermin and disease determined to be a nuisance or hazard by implementing the recommendations of the Integrated Pest Management Plan.
- Ensure safe applications of approved products and chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, rodenticides, and germicides.
- Assist with inspections of indoor facilities and outdoor properties, both on and off campus, to determine the presence of structural pests, such as insects and rodents, as well as agricultural pests and disease.
- Performs general landscape maintenance and snow removal operations according to the Facilities Management policy.
- Operator demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the purpose and operation of landscaping equipment by consistently using the equipment appropriately and safely.
- Assist other landscape crews during special events, sporting events, graduation, and snow and ice removal
- Employee must work all home football games.
- The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
Qualifications
Required
- Knowledge of entrapment, removal, and extermination of pests.
- Knowledge of pesticides, herbicides, etc.
- Knowledge of landscaping practices and procedures.
- Ability to correctly mix and apply pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, etc. in specified equipment.
- Able to identify pests and plant diseases, or a strong willingness to learn.
- Ability to use a variety of landscape equipment, such as mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers and snow removal equipment.
- Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
- Ability to do physically demanding work for extended periods of time in a variety of environmental conditions.
- Must have a current Virginia Pesticide Registered Technician License upon hire.
- Must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months.
Additional Considerations
- Virginia Certified Fertilizer Applicator License or willingness to obtain.
