Elite football performance is underpinned by the ability to meet the complex physical demands of match-play. Prior research has demonstrated that these demands are highly context-dependent, varying according to tactical role, match status, and phases of play. Despite this, current training design in many football clubs relies on aggregate or averaged match data, generic drills lacking contextual specificity and simplified representations of match intensity.
