About the Project

This PhD is an opportunity to advance your skills in econometrics to support the integration of health economics and social care economics. You will analyse observational/real world data to develop mapping algorithms between health outcomes (such as EQ-5D) and measures of wellbeing/independence.

You will apply these mapping algorithms to expenditure data, to see how increasing funding for health and social care improves the quality of life of people in England.

This PhD will appeal to health economists, outcomes researchers and econometricians. You will ideally have a good understanding of cost-effectiveness analysis, cost-utility analysis, and how health technology assessment (HTA) bodies such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) use these.

You will be supported by supervisors at the University of Sheffield, and be integrated with a bigger academic team working on a large programme of impactful research across the Universities of Sheffield and the University of York.

Entry Requirements: Candidates must have a first or upper second class honours degree in economics, health economics, statistics or a similar numerical subject or significant research experience.
