Intern - Technical
Job Description
The purpose of the internship is to provide a current student or recent graduate with practical, hands-on experience in a technical setting while contributing to meaningful projects that support the goals of the department and organization. The intern will gain exposure to day-to-day operations, develop key professional skills, and explore potential career paths.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining and updating departmental databases, spreadsheets, and content management systems
- Support the implementation and troubleshooting of office technology, software applications, and digital tools
- Help create and update technical documentation, user guides, and standard operating procedures
- Perform data entry, validation, cleanup, and basic reporting using Excel, Google Sheets, or database tools
- Aid in system testing, form development, and workflow automation projects using platforms like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or institution-specific tools
- Provide first-level technical support to staff and faculty, including software setup, printer troubleshooting, and login/access issues
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives through research, analysis, and documentation
- Collaborate with IT staff or business analysts on technology-driven projects or service requests
- Present a final project or summary of learning to the team at the end of the internship.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of databases, spreadsheets, and office productivity tools (e.g., Excel formulas, Google Forms, SharePoint)
- Familiarity with help desk, ticketing systems, or cloud-based tools is a plus
- Strong analytical, technical troubleshooting, and organizational skills
- Comfortable learning and using new systems and applications
- Familiarity with Java, Python, and/or JavaScript
- Ability to be comfortable with ambiguity and asking for help when needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow data security protocols
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
Experience
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship during the internship period
- Must be in good academic standing with an expected graduation date
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in higher education and lifelong learning
- Technical certifications are a plus
Position & Application Details
