Internship Coordinator and Career Advisor (Student Services Professional III)
Position Summary
The College of Arts and Letters is seeking a proactive and student-centered Internship Coordinator and Career Advisor to provide support for the International Business Program. Reporting directly to the Dean, this position plays a critical role in supporting student success through hands-on learning opportunities both locally and abroad.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Advising: Guide students in identifying appropriate internships, conduct orientations, and monitor student performance throughout their internship experience.
- Program Development: Create and expand internship opportunities, including international placements and partnerships, with a focus on supporting International Business students.
- Liaison Work: Collaborate with the Office of International Affairs and other university entities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to domestic and international internships.
- College-Wide Support: Partner with departments and career directors to enhance and tailor internship placements across the College of Arts and Letters, particularly in areas with limited existing programs.
- Partnership & Progress Management: Secure Service Learning Agreements, track student outcomes, and promote participation in undergraduate research tied to internship experiences.

Position Information
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.
Department Summary
The International Business Program is an interdisciplinary program combining business, foreign languages and cultural knowledge. Housed in the College of Arts and Letters, International Business is one of the largest majors at SDSU, with over 500 students. Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master's degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Key Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal regulations in relation to internships, including the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Knowledge of the National Associations of Colleges and Employers (NACE) internship standards.
- Experience working with internship employers and creating internship position descriptions.
- Knowledge of the FORUM on Education Abroad's Volunteer, Internship Experience and Work standards as well as NAFSA guidelines for international internships.
- Knowledge of professional business resources and job market trends specific to business.
- Experience with career advising.
- Experience with event coordination.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience with international internship policies and procedures and best practices as required by CSU and SDSU (preferred).
- Thorough knowledge of barriers for students from underrepresented groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals consistent with multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department's budget and equity guidelines. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $5,540/month.
