Intraop Mntrng Neuromonitorist - $15,000 SIGN ON BONUS- Pavilion
The Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity available to join the Intraoperative Neuromonitoring team. In this role, you will use state of the art equipment to protect patients by continuously monitoring the central and peripheral nervous system during surgery. Joining a highly qualified and diverse group, you will work closely with multiple disciplines to help improve patient outcomes through remarkable advances in IOM care.
- Interact with the surgical team and surgeons during surgery to provide interpretative data regarding the patients neurological status.
- Measure and accurately apply recording electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 Electrode Placement System.
- Identify and eliminate physiological and non physiological artifacts.
- Recognize normal patterns and variants and abnormal patterns understand the medical and pharmacological/anesthetic conditions that influence the recording of IOM modalities (e.g. EP, BAER, MEP, etc); understand the clinical correlations between abnormal evoked potentials and various disease states.
- Calibrate, evaluate and adjust equipment, optimizing recoding and stimulation parameters to acquire salient data and information.
- Implement appropriate troubleshooting methods, such as adjusting stimulation, to assure accurate recording of information.
- Display, print and label Waveforms to hard copy for interpretation marking, measuring and calculating information such as latencies, voltages, and conduction times following established sentient guidelines and protocols.
- Assist clinical supervisor and medical staff in training of technical staff.
- Participate in the conducting of research in the neuroscience area.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
- Explain test procedures to patients and instruct patient in proper positioning, both before and during the recording.
- Maintain appropriate IOM logs, files and work/technical sheet, including a technical description of the IOM modality recoded, with emphasis on the clinical observations in order to assist the neurologists and/or designated MD with the final interpretation.
- Calibrate and adjust equipment to be sure it is in proper working condition.
- Attend weekly in service training lectures and workshops.
Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (CNIM).
Individuals who do not currently hold CNIM certification must meet one of the qualifications below and obtain CNIM certification within three (3) months of eligibility:
- Bachelors degree plus a minimum of one (1) year of direct IOM technologist experience; or
- Bachelors degree with a focus in intraoperative neuromonitoring; or
- REEGT or R.EP.T. certification plus a minimum of one (1) year of direct IOM technologist experience.
This classification requires Primary Source Verification
- Two (2) or more years of IOM experience.
- Experience with pediatric populations and complex cases
In accordance with the UMMAP agreement, shift bidding will occur by seniority. The Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Unit provides support to various operating rooms around the clock, ensuring patients' neurological safety during surgery. Bidding will occur in congruence with the opening of The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion at University of Michigan Health.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
