“Cultivating Virtue and Wisdom, Pursuing Excellence with Precision”

Wenzhou University of Technology (WZUT) warmly invites outstanding overseas young scholars to apply for the 2026 Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) with WZUT as the host institution.

I. Program Positioning

The Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding overseas young scholars (including non-ethnic Chinese foreign nationals) who have achieved notable accomplishments in natural sciences, engineering technology, and related fields to return (or come to China) to work. Scholars are encouraged to independently select research directions and conduct innovative research, promoting the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talents, cultivating leading academic scholars expected to enter the forefront of global science and technology, and contributing to China’s goal of becoming a world leader in science and technology.

II. Eligibility Requirements

(I) Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China; possess strong scientific ethics and uphold the spirit of scientists in the new era;
  • Born on or after January 1, 1986;
  • Hold a doctoral degree;
  • Research direction primarily in natural sciences, engineering technology, or related areas;
  • After obtaining the doctoral degree and before April 15, 2026, generally hold a formal teaching or research position at a well-known overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D institution, with no less than 36 consecutive months of overseas work experience.
    + For those who obtained a doctoral degree overseas and have particularly outstanding achievements, the work experience requirement may be relaxed appropriately (not applicable to joint Sino-foreign doctoral programs);
  • Applicants who held paid positions in China during the overseas period will not have that time counted toward overseas work experience;
  • Have achieved recognized research or technological accomplishments acknowledged by peers, with potential to become an academic leader or distinguished expert in the field;
  • Applicants must not have returned to China for full-time employment yet, or must have returned after January 1, 2025. Upon receiving funding approval, recipients must resign from overseas positions and work full-time in China for at least three years.

(II) Application Restrictions

Must comply with national coordination requirements for science and technology talent programs. Applicants may only undertake one program at the same level and may not apply for lower-level programs. Those who have applied for other national talent programs at the same level for 2026 may not apply for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas).

Specific requirements shall be subject to the official 2026 program guidelines.
