Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Application programming, Computer graphic development, web design, Information Technology, or related field with sufficient experience to show competence and innovation in application development. Ten or more years experience in developing web applications.
Position Summary: This position is part of the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia – Tifton Campus (Bugwood). The Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health develops, maintains and hosts many digital tools and resources including web, smartphone, and database applications. This position is responsible for working with Center staff, federal and state agencies and other stakeholders to maintain and develop the Bugwood digital resources. They also serve a leading role in web application development. The job necessitates understanding of how to create web applications that provide users with efficient and effective means of interacting with data. They will also serve as a liaison to partners in the Northeastern United States working in Integrated Pest Management. This position has a limited term appointment term which is expected to end 2 years after the start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term, contingent upon continued funding.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Languages related to web application development such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML, ColdFusion, PHP, SQL; Content management systems such as WordPress and Mura; Testing, Environment aware configuration and development; Effective written and verbal communication and organizational skills; Developing and maintaining appropriate documentation for users; Working knowledge of or proven capability to quickly learn additional programming languages, systems, and other tools as needed; Familiarity with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and active collaborations in the Northeastern US focusing on IPM

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop new web applications and maintain existing applications: Maintain web applications (develop, test, deploy); Design, develop, test, and deploy new web applications; Implement both front-end and back-end functionalities; Follow best practices; Document source code; Gather user requirements for requested application features, improvements, etc.; Resolve applications’ bugs, issues, defects, etc.; Applications’ performance optimization and improvement (60% of time).
- Project Planning/Research and Development: Responsible for researching new ways to accomplish the aims of an application and balance implementation of new technology with time, cost, and compatibility (15% of time).
- Debugging, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance: Ensure that the application is performing as intended and respond when issues arise. This may involve working with other members of the team in performing root cause analysis and finding workable solutions to improve the user experience (15% of time).
- Miscellaneous: Provide a physical presence to partners we work with in the Northeast region in the area of Integrated Pest Management; Other duties as assigned (10% of time).
