IT/AV Technician
We’re seeking a skilled, motivated, and experienced IT professional to join our team as an IT/AV Technician. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on your existing expertise in a fast-paced, supportive, and varied environment—contributing to the delivery of high-quality IT services across the Royal Veterinary College (RVC).
In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with the IT Resources Manager, the Helpdesk team, colleagues across the IT department, and the Business Information Unit (BIU) to provide outstanding 1st and 2nd line support to students and staff. Based primarily at our Camden campus, you’ll also occasionally travel to our Hawkshead campus to support and maintain over 2,000 University-managed Windows systems across both sites.
Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and resolving technical issues across a wide range of hardware, software, and operating systems—including audio-visual equipment. You’ll also offer guidance and support to students with their personal devices, making every day varied and rewarding.
Success in this role depends on your ability to troubleshoot efficiently, communicate effectively, and collaborate across teams and departments. You’ll be key to delivering user-focused, reliable IT services that support the College’s broader strategic goals.
We’re seeking someone with strong communication skills and proven experience working with both hardware and software in a complex, user-focused environment. Experience in higher education is highly desirable, along with a solid background in troubleshooting, technical problem-solving, and analytical thinking. You should also be confident working with both technical and non-technical colleagues to ensure seamless support across the institution.
We are currently the QS number 1 ranked veterinary school in the world and a great not-for-profit organisation to work for. The College’s total reward package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, and free sports/gym facilities, with campuses in Camden and leafy Hertfordshire. A Working from Home Policy is in operation providing hybrid working opportunities as appropriate.
Normal working hours per week will be 35 per week, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm. This may vary from time to time in consultation with your line manager.
We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:
- Competitive and attractive pension package
- Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays + concessionary days)
- Access to free in-house CPD and funded external CPD
- A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave
- On site café and restaurant
- Free membership to the newly built Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga and Pilates classes included)
- Cycle to work scheme
- Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus
