This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur.

Olympic College is continuously recruiting adjunct faculty to teach courses in Japanese. Candidates must be available to teach in person on the Bremerton and Poulsbo campuses. Olympic College seeks applicants who are dedicated to student-centered learning, closing achievement gaps, supporting diversity and social justice learning opportunities, and who employ data-informed decision-making in their instruction.

Part-time positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Applying does not guarantee that a position will be available or offered. Candidates who are only available to teach online will not be considered.

As a comprehensive community college, we offer instruction in Basic Studies, which includes awarding a high school diploma, GED preparation, and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; and four applied baccalaureate degrees. Additionally, we provide community education throughout our two-county region.

Essential Functions

  • Teach evening, distance, and in-person classes primarily on the Bremerton and Poulsbo campuses, and at the Shelton campus when requested.
  • Teach college-level courses in accordance with the college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course syllabi, and any departmental guidelines.
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation and grading
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required.
  • May include evening instruction and/or instruction at satellite campuses.
  • Punctual communication with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Japanese language or literature from an accredited College or University
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Near native-fluency
  • Instructors should have the ability to teach Japanese I, II, and III.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Qualifications

  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with Canvas Learning Management System.

  • Utilize a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success.

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom, with other faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Appropriately incorporate the use of computer information technology in the delivery of services.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment, to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate.
  • Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate.
