Offer Description
The Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) funds the incorporation of young researchers into Spanish R&D centres through the Juan de la Cierva 2026 Contracts programme.
The University of Burgos is seeking candidates in the field of Historical Grammar and History of the Spanish Language who are interested in joining the research group INQUIRE – Inquisitorial Studies and developing their postdoctoral research at the University of Burgos.
RESEARCH GROUP
The candidate will join INQUIRE – Inquisitorial Studies (https://investigacion.ubu.es/grupos/1803/detalle), a research group at the University of Burgos devoted to the study and edition of inquisitorial texts from Europe and Spanish America, written both in Latin and in vernacular languages. The group's research also addresses the analysis of the language used in inquisitorial documentation, including the study of the voices, terminology and documentary practices reflected in inquisitorial processes. This research environment offers opportunities for researchers working on historical linguistics, historical grammar, the history of Spanish and the linguistic analysis of historical documents and corpora.
RESEARCH AREA
We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on Historical Grammar and/or History of the Spanish Language, broadly understood, including areas such as:
- Historical grammar of Spanish.
- Historical syntax and morphology.
- Diachronic development of Spanish.
- Processes of grammatical change in Spanish.
- Historical linguistics and language variation.
- Historical varieties of Spanish and their evolution.
- Corpus-based approaches to the study of the history of Spanish.
- Linguistic analysis of historical and documentary sources.
- The relationship between language change, textual traditions and historical contexts.
Research related to inquisitorial documentation, historical corpora, documentary sources or the linguistic study of historical texts would be particularly relevant to the research environment of the INQUIRE group.
