Junior Research Scientist in the Division of Social Science (Economics)
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Junior Research Scientist to work on a series of research projects focused on the links between institutions, firms, labor, and migration in developing countries. Candidates can expect to be involved in all aspects of the research project, with the primary goal of publication. Terms of employment include a competitive salary and benefits.
The junior researcher will work closely with faculty to support existing projects as well as develop new projects using both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and administrative data. Working directly under the supervision of Professors Morgan Hardy and Veda Narasimhan, the position offers an exceptional opportunity to build strong academic research skills including the development of new research projects, papers, and publications to facilitate highly competitive applications to PhD programs.
The successful candidate will be given a high degree of responsibility and oversight for the research projects. Responsibilities include the management of primary data collection in the field, data cleaning, analysis, and the management of data replication packages for publication. Additionally, the candidate will conduct literature reviews, assist with grant writing and proposals, draft exhibits, manuscripts, and papers, prepare conference and seminar presentations, and support all other aspects of the publication and revision process.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor s degree (BA) or a Masters in Economics or a related discipline, though additional majors that broaden the candidate's overall skill scope are preferred. Required experience includes prior experience working directly on academic papers and projects, alongside a high degree of proficiency in econometric methods and statistical analysis tools, such as Stata or equivalent statistical software.
We are particularly interested in candidates who possess a demonstrated interest in topics related to political economy, firms, labor, and migration. Experience working in the Ethiopian context is highly preferred, and fluency in the Amharic language is a strongly desired skill for this role.
