Central European Institute of Technology of Masaryk University (CEITEC MU) in Brno, Czech Republic is seeking a Junior Researcher for the project New Technologies for Translational Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences (NETPHARM), project registration no. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004607.

About the position: For Research Objective No. 5: Advanced in vitro and in silico approaches in drug development. We use cryo-electron microscopy and tomography to determine the three-dimensional structures of viruses and bacteriophages and to characterize their infection of cells. We employ fluorescence light microscopy for time-resolved imaging of phage infection in biofilms. We study human viruses from the families Picornaviridae and Flaviviridae, as well as tailed phages of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Our laboratory is part of the structural biology program at CEITEC. We have access to our own electron microscopes: Titan Krios equipped with Falcon4 and K2 detectors, Talos Arctica, TF20, and a Versa 3D dual-beam microscope for focused ion beam milling. Our team includes technicians who assist with routine laboratory tasks.

What will your daily tasks include?

• Analysis of the binding of therapeutic nanoparticles to the cell surface using cryo-EM
• Independent execution of experimental research activities in the relevant field
• Expansion and application of scientific knowledge acquired through the study of individual scientific disciplines
• Collection, processing, analysis, and interpretation of scientific papers and reports
• Identification of risks and escalation of risks to a superior position

You have (necessary competencies):

• No more than 7 years have passed since the award of their Ph.D. degree or its equivalent (equivalent to level 8 according to ISCED)
• Active knowledge of English
• Required education in the relevant field of the research objective
