Position Description
The Heyrovský Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences invites applications for a position within the research team of the Department of Space Chemistry and Technology. The position focuses on scientific instrumentation and the development of novel experimental methods for space applications.
The successful applicant will independently conduct relevant research activities, including the design, simulation, and construction of instruments for space relevevant experiments. The applicant will be responsible for collecting, evaluating, and interpreting experimental data, as well as publishing and presenting the research results. The position will also involve the preparation of grant proposals.
The research will focus primarily on the design and construction of novel mass spectrometer prototypes for the in situ analysis of extraterrestrial material, requiring the application of space engineering methods.
General Requirements
- A PhD in physics or chemistry
- In-depth knowledge of space engineering
- Excellent written and spoken English
- some experience with outreach and science communication
Specific Requirements
- Extensive experience in mass spectrometry, particularly high-resolution mass spectrometry, including quadrupole, time-of-flight (TOF), Orbitrap
- Extensive experience with high-vacuum equipment
- Experience in 3D modelling and design using AutoCAD or comparable software
- Experience in simulating ion trajectories in ion-optical systems using SIMION
- Knowledge of emerging methods for analysing cosmic dust particles
Expected Start Date
1 November 2026, or as agreed

12 months
