Offer Description
LIP – Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics opens an international call for the recruitment of a Junior Researcher (PhD holder) within the scope of the project SWGO (Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory), with the reference 2023.18160.ICDT, entitled “O futuro observatório de raios gama no hemisfério Sul”, funded under the Call “Concurso de Projetos de IC&DT em todos os domínios científicos 2023” and supported by funds of the State Budget.
Work plan:
The work plan will be developed in the context of the activities of the LIP group that participates in the Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory, and will focus in particular on the development of innovative methods for shower reconstruction, namely on determining the direction, energy, and nature of the primary particle.
This work might require travelling to other countries.

Legislation:
The contract will be established in accordance with Decree-Law nº 57/2016 of August 29, amended by Law nº 57/2017 of July 19, which regulates the employment of PhD holders to promote scientific and technological employment.
Duration:
The fixed-term contract will have an expected duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension for a new period up to 12 months.

- Familiarity with Experimental Astroparticle Physics.
Preferred criteria:
Programming skills (Python, C++) and knowledge of analysis tools.

Benefits
Monthly remuneration to be paid is the level 33 of the Single Salary Table, i.e. 2.408,11 Euros.
Eligibility criteria
Any national, foreign, or stateless candidates who hold an academic or professional curriculum whose profile is suited for the activity to be performed can submit their applications. Selection process
As stipulated in article 5 of RJEC, the selection is based on the evaluation of the scientific and curricular career of the candidates admissible.
Evaluation:
Evaluation of the CV and motivation letter of the candidates, namely their scientific merit and research capabilities as demonstrated by the diffusion of the scientific results achieved and by the participation in research projects in scientific fields relevant for the proposed work program.
Each member of the panel will value the criteria for each candidate, taking into account the requirements of the duties to be performed, the adequacy of previous experience, his/her relationship to the relevant areas and sub-areas.
The selection will consider the applicant's Curriculum Vitae (40%) and the Research statement and adequacy of the scientific profile to the proposed work plan (60%).

Advertising / notification of results:
The results of the evaluation will be communicated by email; in case of disagreement, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to contest the decision, as provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure in a preliminary hearing. At the end of this period, the arguments presented will be analysed by the jury committee, who will simultaneously communicate the final decision to all the candidates who submitted allegations. The results of the shortlisted applicants will be communicated by e‐mail. In case of disagreement, the candidates have a period of 15 working days to contest the decision.
