Position Summary Information
The K–12 Professional Learning Specialist serves within TPI’s K–12 Practice Initiatives and is responsible for supporting school districts and school sites in strengthening educator capacity to meet the needs of diverse learners. The K–12 Professional Learning Specialist is a highly qualified educator with deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and evidence-based teaching practices.
This role leads and supports professional learning activities, including classroom observations, coaching, modeling, and feedback designed to strengthen instructional effectiveness and improve student outcomes. The K–12 Professional Learning Specialist works collaboratively with site and district leaders to advance strategic priorities related to educational access, equity, and high-quality learning opportunities for all students, including students with disabilities.
This position requires regular travel within California to support TPI’s K–12 Practice Initiatives across multiple sites. The employee must have reliable transportation, the ability to travel independently as needed, a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
PK-12 Instructional Coaching
- Provide professional development and technical assistance to schools and districts on evidence-based instructional practices, educational access for diverse learners, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
- Develop materials and related tools for schools to promote inclusive education programming
- Conduct observations and provide appropriate coaching, modeling, and feedback
- Support district and site leaders in developing implementation plans
- Facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
- Model best practices in curriculum design, instructional methods, and classroom management skills
- Collect and use data to drive instruction
- Create, revise, and implement new curriculum
Program Support School Liaison
- Develop partnerships with school districts, school sites, and county offices of education
- Support professional development training schedules and corresponding events
- Travel to school sites and training sites
Required Qualifications
- Certificated teacher with minimum of 5 years of experience teaching
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction at multiple grade levels
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and expertise
- Demonstrates expertise in inclusive education including students with extensive support needs in general education classrooms
- Ability to design and deliver high-quality professional development and coaching
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
- Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional practices
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Willingness to travel
