Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaitātari - Senior Technician to join the Paihau - Robinson Research Institute Team on a permanent, full-time basis. The Senior Technician will work on several applied engineering programmes across the Institutes research portfolio.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in the integration of electromagnetic, electrical and mechanical components into systems including MR, rotating machines in line with best practice.
- Provide technical support to facilitate design and manufacture electromagnetic systems including close liaison with external componentry suppliers and design.
- Provide design and manufacture input into cryogenic environments for any of the superconducting devices under development within Robinson Research Institute.
- Accurately set up experimental test-rigs using appropriate measuring equipment.
- Service vacuum pumps and have knowledge of vacuum welding processes.
- Provide training and guidance to Robinson Research Institute staff and students in best-practice manufacturing techniques for cryogenic and general engineering environments.
- Provide general electrical, mechanical and technical support to programmes across the Robinson Institute as required.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant trade qualification (fitter-turner or toolmaker) and relevant industry experience. You will be an energetic person with proven ability to work well within a team of people as well as communicating and interacting effectively with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds and ages.
You will also be able to work in a semi-autonomous capacity, providing flexible client focused support services. CNC experience and knowledge of CAD/CAM and registration with the NZ Electrical Workers Registration Board would be an advantage in this role.
