Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

As a Kaitakawaenga Māori you will deliver professional Library services to students and academics

You will facilitate access to resources of relevance for learning, teaching and research throughout the University of Canterbury Libraries.

You will provide specialist knowledge and expertise to support the ongoing development of Māori library resources and be responsible for mainitaining and developing our Mātauranga Māori collections located in our Engineering and Physical Sciences and Puaka James Hight Libraries.

You will support the needs of students and staff in academic research, study and enquiry into te ao Māori. You will also work alongside other specialist staff at UC to support the delivery of kaupapa Māori initiatives.

Mōu | Who You Are

You bring experience working in a library, the wider information profession, or the education sector, along with a strong commitment to supporting Māori knowledge and learning.

You have a professional understanding of mātauranga Māori and Māori information resources, as well as knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori. You are confident working with and alongside Māori staff, students and communities, and understand the importance of culturally responsive practice within a university environment. You will also have experience teaching or supporting learning for individuals and groups, and enjoy sharing knowledge to help others develop their information and research skills.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience working in a library, information services, GLAM sector such as galleries archives and museums or education environment
  • Understanding of mātauranga Māori and Māori information resources
  • Knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori
  • Experience working effectively with Māori staff, students or communities
  • Experience teaching or supporting individuals and groups
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

You will be part of the UC Library’s Learning and Engagement team, a collaborative group dedicated to supporting the learning, teaching and research needs of the University community.

Working closely with library colleagues, academic staff, researchers, and student communities, you will contribute to creating inclusive, responsive and culturally grounded library services. You will also engage with Māori communities within the University and with mana whenua to ensure services and collections reflect and respect Māori perspectives.
