Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
You're a supportive and approachable role model who is passionate about the success and wellbeing of ākonga Māori. With strong communication skills and the ability to build genuine relationships, you create safe and welcoming spaces where students feel heard, valued, and empowered. You're confident engaging in peer-to-peer support, encouraging simple wellbeing practices, and connecting students with the right services at the right time. Your lived experience and understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by ākonga Māori enable you to provide meaningful insight and advocate for positive change. If you care deeply about helping others thrive at UC, this role offers the chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of students.
Mōu | Who You Are
To succeed in this role you will have NCEA 3/National Certificate (NZQA Level 3) or equivalent, as well as:
- Be skilled in connecting with other students, active and non-judgemental listening, and offering genuine empathy and support.
- Ability to speak confidently and effectively to others when sharing personal experiences or providing information about mental health and wellbeing.
- Skilled in advocating for mental health and wellbeing awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting supportive environments.
- Demonstrated ability to show leadership, taking initiative, and being a positive role model
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team, building strong relationships with peers, staff, and external partners to support shared goals
- Previous experience in planning, or organising events, workshops, or initiatives that promote student wellbeing and engagement.
- An alignment with our organisation's values and culture, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment
