Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaitaupua Whakapā - Communications Coordinator to join Te Pātaka Toi - Adam Art Gallery team on a permanent, part-time basis.

The role spans our public interface and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Gallery’s work by developing and coordinating the delivery of bold, clear and effective external communications, with the aim of growing audiences and deepening the Gallery’s impact. We are a small and ambitious team with a wide range of community stakeholders. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, flexible and an exceptional communicator.

Key responsibilities:

  • Preparation of engaging, well-written copy for all communications published by the Gallery. These include but are not restricted to website copy, e-newsletters, media releases, public programme copy, news stories for internal and external distribution, internal comms in our university context.
  • Providing editorial support to the director and curator including fact checking, sensitivity reading, copy-editing, and proofing exhibition related materials and publications.
  • Managing the gallery’s website and social media.
  • Building and maintaining excellent networks to ensure the gallery’s communications reach their target audiences.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will have a strong track record as a writer, editor and proofreader and be capable of preparing clear, relevant copy for a range of platforms and occasions. You will be an advocate for the arts and art histories with the requisite skills and empathy to work with artists, curators, critics, scholars, students, and the media.

Key requirements:

  • Proven abilities as a writer, editor and proof-reader.
  • Experience working with websites, including accessibility best practices.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for art, art history and good art writing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Meta Business Suite and Mailchimp.
  • Commitment to correct use of te reo Māori, to upholding tikanga.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and to growing cultural competency in all areas.
  • An understanding of the Adam’s role as a university art gallery.
