Position: KDOC Adult Education Navigator

Starting Salary Range: $20.93 - $26.94 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.
Position Summary
The Adult Education Navigator supports incarcerated and returning citizens in accessing adult education, vocational training, and postsecondary opportunities. This position plays a critical role in helping individuals navigate educational pathways during incarceration and reintegration, ensuring continuity of services, and coordinating with KDOC staff and community partners. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, located at Lansing Correctional facility. This position will report to Lansing Correctional Facility Education Coordinator.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, social services, criminal justice, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in adult education, reentry services, case management, or related work.
- Availability for occasional travel and flexible scheduling as needed.
- The incumbent must be able to lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to pass a KDOC background check and work onsite at Lansing Correctional Facility.
Position details include but are not limited to:
- Student Transition and Support Services:
- Supports individuals in transitioning into community-based adult education programs, vocational training, apprenticeships, and postsecondary degree programs.
- Provides information on enrollment, financial aid, and community resources. Coordinates with community partners to ensure continuity of educational progress after release.
- Engages students who complete their high school equivalency to explore further education, training, or workforce opportunities.
- Assists students with obtaining high school and postsecondary transcripts while maintaining confidentiality of student records.
- Reentry and Education/Employment Pathway Development:
- Collaborates with counselors, reentry navigators, community corrections staff, and multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized education and employment pathways for incorporation into reentry plans, aligned with students' career interests, credentials, and long-term goals.
- Employment and External Partner Coordination:
- Coordinates with career navigators, parole officers, and community partners to support students' transition from education into employment aligned with their training and skills.
- Educational Continuity Across Facilities:
- Coordinates with receiving facilities to transfer educational information and documentation when a student transfers, ensuring uninterrupted continuation of the student's education.
- Documentation, Data Reporting, and Professional Participation:
- Reviews monthly education assistance data reports to identify and conduct outreach to individuals nearing release.
- Documents case notes, navigation services, and student competency in Athena, Chronos, and LACES in accordance with KDOC standards.
- Participate in monthly facility meetings, statewide education network meetings, and quarterly KDOC meetings and trainings to coordinate services and share program updates.
- Other duties as assigned:
