Kennicott Fellow in Hebrew Studies

Kennicott Fellow in Hebrew Studies

Location: 1 Pusey Lane, Oxford, OX1 2LE

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies aims to appoint a Career Development Fellowship in Hebrew Studies, funded by the Kennicott Fund for two years, to plan and deliver a research project. This position is a great opportunity for a scholar at a very early stage of their career to undertake research within the field, with a focus on Classical Hebrew language and literature, or the cognate Semitic languages so far as they illustrate Hebrew. The post will also provide some in-person teaching experience.

You will hold a doctorate in a relevant field, be able to present a sound and original research proposal, and be able to demonstrate knowledge of Classical Hebrew sufficient to undertake the proposed research. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication and present research proposals and results, are essential. You should also show you have the ability to plan and manage your own research and administrative activities.

As responsibilities of the post also include some graduate teaching in the postholder’s area of expertise, some prior experience of small-group and class teaching in Classical Hebrew or a related subject would also be an advantage.

This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for two years from no later than 30 September 2026.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 2 February 2026.
