Korean Acquisitions Assistant

is primarily responsible for two categories: i acquisitions and copy cataloging. Acquisition-related activities for all formats of Korean language materials. As the Korean Acquisitions Assistant, you will receive all formats of Korean language materials including monographs, serials, visual materials, musical scores, and maps. You will prepare orders, prepare invoices for payment, and handle other acquisitions-related matters to support research in Korean Studies. You will also perform copy cataloging for newly acquired Korean language printed materials including monographs and materials that are part of standing orders, and update holdings and perform record maintenance for added volumes and serials in ALMA. You will report to the Head of Asia Library Technical Services. This position is onsite or hybrid. Acquisitions Assist the Korean Studies Librarian in the acquisition of Korean language materials (purchases and gifts; monographs and serials; firm orders and standing orders) Create brief MARC records in ALMA for Korean materials needed for acquisition processing Receive and process newly acquired Korean materials Prepare vendor invoices for payment Maintain the flow of incoming and outgoing backlog materials requiring cataloging Communicate with vendors to resolve any acquisition-related matters with the Korean Studies Librarian Train and manage student assistants Maintain current knowledge of emerging acquisitions/cataloging standards and attend relevant workshops or webinars Cataloging Perform copy cataloging for Korean materials by searching the OCLC database for record matches and enhancing MARC records according to the relevant cataloging rules and procedures Work on special projects as assigned. Fluency in written and spoken Korean, including Hancha (Chinese characters) Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms of English Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, either independently or as part of a team, with multiple faculty, students, and staff, with different backgrounds to achieve unit goals Demonstrated ability to work accurately and quickly, with the flexibility to work under frequently changing work patterns Familiarity with the McCune-Reischauer Romanization system Knowledge of national and international metadata standards and metadata schemas, including MARC, RDA, and other Library of Congress standards Experience searching bibliographic databases and using a local library automated system The mode of work is on-site with a possible hybrid option at the discretion of the hiring department.
