Lab Manager (Laboratory Research Assistant)

Department Information

The Neuroscience of Mind and Behavior Lab (NiMBLe), located within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University, research incorporates behavioral, cognitive, and neuroimaging (fMRI) research to identify the mechanisms by which social cognition changes over the lifespan in healthy and pathological aging. We are also interested in research related to stigma associated with mental illness and addiction.

Job Summary

The project incorporates behavioral and neuroimaging methodologies. The lab manager is primarily responsible for recruiting and testing healthy older adults, helping to conduct neuroimaging research, supervising undergraduate research assistants, and coordinating research efforts with our team in Indianapolis.

General Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies.
  • Organizes and implements data review and analysis.
  • Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories.
  • Conducts data quality assurance practices.
  • Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.
  • Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory.

Qualifications

Required
Bachelor's degree in science or a health-related discipline.

Preferred
Some laboratory experience.

Proficient in English with written and verbal communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Highly thorough and dependable.

Additional Information

The lab manager will receive formal training in administering neuropsychological assessments, and have the opportunity to analyze fMRI data. The lab manager will have opportunities to earn authorship on publications and present posters at scientific meetings.
