"Lab/Research Technician - Dept of Social and Behavioral Sciences"

Position Responsibilities:

• Obtaining blood samples via intravenous draw
• Explaining procedures to research participants and comforting those who may be nervous about needles
• Processing samples for analysis in accordance with manualized procedures
• Observing best practices for safety and risk minimization
• Maintaining up-to-date certification for phlebotomy and ethical conduct of human subjects research

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma
• Certification as a phlebotomy technician; e.g., NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT); ASCP Phlebotomy Technician (PBT); AMT Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT)
• At least 1 year of experience conducting blood draws as a certified phlebotomist
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., health sciences, nursing, clinical laboratory sciences)
• Previous experience conducting blood draws in a research setting
• CITI certification in human subjects research

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
