Lab/Research Technician - Dept of Social and Behavioral Sciences
Position Responsibilities:
- Obtaining blood samples via intravenous draw
- Explaining procedures to research participants and comforting those who may be nervous about needles
- Processing samples for analysis in accordance with manualized procedures
- Observing best practices for safety and risk minimization
- Maintaining up-to-date certification for phlebotomy and ethical conduct of human subjects research
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Certification as a phlebotomy technician; e.g., NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT); ASCP Phlebotomy Technician (PBT); AMT Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT)
- At least 1 year of experience conducting blood draws as a certified phlebotomist
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., health sciences, nursing, clinical laboratory sciences)
- Previous experience conducting blood draws in a research setting
- CITI certification in human subjects research
This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
