Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities Considerable knowledge of general laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety techniques used in a chemical, biological, research, teaching, or medical laboratory. Working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and math skills involved in media and reagent preparation. Working knowledge of quality control, inventory, instrument calibration and maintenance, and operation of office reproducing equipment. Working knowledge of applicable computer software to include Microsoft Office products. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow instructions. Demonstrated ability to maintain records; to record and report results/outcomes. Demonstrated ability to lead or direct the work of others. Special licenses, registration or certification Either Medical Laboratory Technician ( ASCP ) certification (or eligibility to obtain), or a B.S. degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology or a related field. Education or training Either a B.S. degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology or a related field, or Medical Laboratory Technician ( ASCP ) certification (or eligibility to obtain). Level and type of experience Comprehensive experience working in a laboratory setting to include student or employee supervision and assistance, quality control, inventory, and instrument calibration and maintenance. Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification) Both Medical Laboratory Technician ( ASCP ) certification and a B.S. degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology or a related field or higher. Microbiology, phlebotomy/serology, and other medical laboratory experience. Some experience working in a university laboratory setting. Some experience supervising others in a laboratory setting. Some experience with instrumentation required for medical laboratory science classrooms. Class I & Class III Waste Management Facility Operator License with Commonwealth Virginia.
