Job Duties: At the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL), our team provides diagnostic testing to identify CWD and track its progression throughout Wisconsin and beyond. These efforts help inform disease surveillance and support consumer safety. As hunting season approaches, WVDL is temporarily expanding its team to manage an anticipated increase in sample volume. New team members will help sustain the accuracy and efficiency of our CWD testing services during this critical period. Prior laboratory experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided in sample preparation and testing for CWD.
Part or Full Time Hours: 20-40 hours per week.
PM Shift: Monday through Friday starting at 4:30 pm to 1:00 am. The schedule will vary depending on the workload and may include overtime and/or weekends (Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 am - 6:00 pm). This position is expected to be seasonal and end on December 30, 2025; however, the end date may be adjusted earlier or extended based on funding availability, program needs, and performance. Free parking is available on-site during the night shift and weekend hours.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Performs quality control, acknowledges documents, performs document reviews and/or writes and revises documents as assigned
- Uses, maintains, calibrates, and sets up lab equipment and apparatuses according to established policies and procedures and documents activities
- Coordinates and participates in a variety of routine technical duties by providing assistance to research and/or laboratory staff in testing and experiments
- Completes and acknowledges trainings
- Sets up, prepares, and cleans laboratory glassware, instruments, equipment, and laboratory work spaces
Department: Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Lab (WVDL), Pathology Sciences Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE)
Compensation: Starting hourly rate for this position is $23 per hour. Returning employees will earn $25 per hour.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated familiarity with tissue handling and preparation techniques
- Prior experience working in laboratory
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks
Education: H.S Diploma or G.E.D. required
