Laboratory Coordinator III, Department of Surgery (Part-time)
Position Highlights
The Department of Surgery is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator to support research functions at the Institute for Cellular Transplantation (ICT). Research focuses on cell therapies, tissue engineering, and artificial organ research for diabetes treatment. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, be well-organized, highly motivated, and able to work independently or collaboratively. Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction for the Islet Isolation Program, including participating in human islet isolations: screening donors and communicating with external OPOs, preparing the isolation facility, guiding the isolation team, maintaining data for regulatory oversight, and being available for nights and weekends.
- Coordinate and guide student researchers and staff for inventory management, data acquisition, analysis, and summarization related to islets.
- Oversee the isolation facility, troubleshoot and maintain equipment, work with vendors for quotes and service, and train users in equipment operation and research techniques.
- Review islet documentation for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Perform isolated islet assessment and culture tasks independently.
- Develop SOPs related to Islet Isolation.
- Partner with leadership for needs assessments, process improvements, and program implementation.
- Assist with training students and staff in laboratory safety.
- Complete routine administrative and technical support for research projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with data management software (e.g., RedCap, Access) and statistical packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Stata, R).
- Knowledge of university procedures for Sponsored Projects and IRB.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software for grants, presentations, and management.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning, and minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination.
