"LABORATORY RESEARCHER IV"

Position Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a LABORATORY RESEARCHER IV for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Under the general guidance and direction of the Specialist in Turfgrass Entomology, the Laboratory Researcher IV provides professional level technical support involving routine and experimental work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field. This work involves the application of more intricate and complex scientific research methods and techniques relative to the evaluation of biological, chemical, physical, and cultural control methods for the management of turfgrass insect pests as well as ecological studies of turfgrass insect pests and their antagonists.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

• Trains and leads students through various laboratory and greenhouse related activities.
• Completes work under supervision with specific instruction on routine or semi-routine work.
• Makes decisions following standard practices and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in entomology, plant science, or related field or equivalent combination of educational and relevant experience.

Equipment Utilized

Dissecting microscopes, pipettes, incubators, centrifuges, climate chambers, turf corers and pluggers, small sod cutter, PC-based or Windows platforms (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to work with dissecting/light microscope for long hours.
• Manual dexterity is essential in many expected laboratory activities (e.g., inspection of insect samples, dissection of insect cadavers to evaluate infection rates with pathogens, etc.).
• Ability to perform strenuous work in the field under any normal climatic conditions encountered during the turfgrass field season (mid-March to mid-November).
