Job Summary:
The CU Center for Rare Melanomas located at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, has an opening for a full-time Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional to manage the RARE biorepository. This exciting opportunity involves managing specimens and clinical data from rare melanoma patients for a nation-wide specimen biorepository supported by the Melanoma Research Alliance. Samples from this biorepository will support critical research by investigators around the world. The applicant will be responsible for shipping out kits to collect specimens, hands-on processing of patient specimens such as purifying DNA/RNA and injecting tumors into mice, entry and management of clinical data associated with specimens, tracking of specimens and clinical data in a laboratory information management system, and generating regular reports on biorepository status. This position will provide experience in tumor and clinical data research, with the opportunity to present biorepository progress at national and international meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
- Prepare and ship barcoded collection kits to universities and hospitals nationwide for specimen procurement.
- Process incoming specimens, such as barcoding/labeling, making DNA/RNA derivatives, and making cell lines or injecting into mice.
- Enter specimens and associated clinical data into the laboratory tracking system.
- Generate regular reports on the status of the biorepository.
- Present weekly updates at laboratory meetings, and occasionally present biorepository status as research conferences.
Work Location:
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
- Oncology experience (research or clinical).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
- Proficiency with MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Viper, including internet and electronic mail capabilities.
- Understanding of basic laboratory skills including sterile technique, specimen preparation, handling, and storage.
- Understanding of basic molecular biology and ability to interpret basic data.
- Ability to maintain extended attention to detail with limited samples and defined procedures.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $46,274 – $58,861.
The above salary range (*or hiring range*) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
