Candidate will serve as "the hands" of a second-year PhD Physical Chemistry student in a wheelchair in a research laboratory. The position would require the Research Specialist to be in a Chemistry lab frequently.
Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at Penn is a department of ideas and scholars, where the community of faculty, post-doctoral fellows, students, and staff collaborate in exploring new frontiers in the chemical and molecular sciences.
Penn Chemistry is housed in a complex of buildings providing classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, analytical instrumentation, library services, and support operations. The Chemistry Complex is located within the heart of the Penn campus, and Penn Chemistry is central to many multidisciplinary research efforts on campus, both geographically and scientifically.
Job Responsibilities:
- Candidate will serve as "the hands" of a second-year PhD Physical Chemistry student in a wheelchair in a research laboratory. The position would require the Research Specialist to be in a Chemistry lab frequently. Successful completion of EHRS safety training is required.
- The Research Specialist will need to take detailed notes on experiments performed by the graduate student and assist with all aspects of research, as led and detailed by the graduate student and her Principal Investigator. Successful candidates will display a willingness to learn specific safety and research protocols and ensure that they are followed at all times.
- It is expected that the Research Specialist may need to accompany the student during travel to conferences and national laboratories to assist in performing research and taking notes.

Qualifications:
A High School Degree and 1-2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and 0-1 years of experience is preferred. The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines is required. Candidate should be comfortable working closely with a hypoallergenic service dog. Ability to write and take notes involving mathematical formula and graphs is also required.
